RELife4PCBA: A concrete solution to support the transformation towards a circularity approach in e-waste management.
A circular system to regenerate electronic circuit boards. The first in Italy.
The problem
Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment is the fastest growing solid waste stream in the world, increasing 3 times faster than the world’s population
61,3
million metric tons of electronic ewaste in 2023
17,4%
only 17.4 per cent was collected, treated, and recycled globally
Structural problems
In B2B electronic market there are some business and technical barriers preventing SMEs and small companies access to refurbishing service, such as:
01.
No access to digital traceability services
02.
No economy of scale for small companies
03.
Difficult management of Logistic and Supply Chain
04.
Strict product reliability standard (product lifetime, certification)
Proposal Overview
RELIFE4PCBA project will deliver a concrete solution to support the shift to circularity approach in E-Waste management, providing a digital smart interface for data sharing and product field traceability linked and connected to the manufacturing department and a dedicated rework & repair department in FAE Technology.

Our solution
The core of the initiative is the development of software for data sharing and traceability of electronic boards, integrated with the production and refurbishment department of FAE Technology.
01.
Software

The field service operator will have a mobile application that provides full traceability of the electronic board being replaced and will have the ability to record a new fault for the board.
The Customer Quality Manager / Customer Service Manager will have access to a monitoring dashboard, offering an overview of all components currently under repair or refurbishment, along with the updated status of lifecycle management activities.
02.
Smart Refurbishment

FAE Technology will upgrade the technical equipment and tools of the service & refurbishment area of the company with two main actions:
- Add refurbishing stations, single equipped desks for operators, with all the technical instruments to perform manual repair activities on electronic boards.
- Install new automated equipment to optimize process lead time, provide integrated data collection to the Smart Refurbishment platform, and ensure compliance with state-of-the-art technology for the rework and repair of electronic boards.
